April 2010 Newsletter
Monday, March 29th, 2010A note from our President…..
I returned from chilly Florida to find that most of our snow had melted—yippee! As a native Minnesotan I know a heavy March or even early April snow storm is probably inevitable, but a girl can hope that spring is coming soon. Whatever the weather, please come enjoy some time with Edina Newcomers this month:

239 Selby Ave., St. Paul
The imposing Beaux Arts Cathedral of St. Paul occupies the highest ground in St. Paul. It is the seat of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and, as such, is the spiritual home to over 800,000 Roman Catholics. The cornerstone was laid for this National Historic Landmark in 1907. The design was conceived by French architect Masqueray whose brief was to build “a modern building, perfect in its acoustics, in its sanitary, ventilating, heating and other details….”. The exterior is made of St. Cloud granite and the interior features travertine from Mankato. Although its first services were held in 1915, work on the interior continued for decades. Let’s hope for a sunny day as the cathedral’s beautiful stained glass windows are renowned. Complimentary tours focusing on the art and architecture are given beginning at 1pm, Monday through Friday.
