BOOKCLUB––Tuesday, April 7th, 7:00PM—at the home of a member The Book Thief’s uniquely constructed story is told by Death, who is trying to make sense of the horrors of WWII. It relates the tale of Liesel – a young German girl whose book-stealing and story-telling talents help sustain her family, neighbors, and the Jewish man they are hiding. It sounds like a very sad story, but the story of Leisel is actually heart-warming and wonderful example of rising above some dire circumstances and finding joy in simple pleasures.

Across the street from their original deli, each of the 21 or so pastas on the menu at Broder’s Pasta Bar gets an individual sauté of ingredients with fresh garlic and herbs added at the right moment, and served steaming hot. Ragamala Dance Theatre
Southern Theater, 1420 Washington Ave. S., Mpls.
Sthree is a haunting contemporary adaptation that explores the underlying tension between the principles of karma and dharma, the basis of the Hindu belief system. Drawing from the exquisite classical dance form of southern India, Ragamala brings to their audience a synthesis of the philosophy, mythology and spirituality of their Indian heritage. The customs are beautiful and the dancing is amazing —a really great show overall. This MN Dance Company has been recognized throughout the U.S. and overseas in the past few years.
RSVP by Wednesday, April 15th to Sally@EdinaNewcomers.org. Once we know who’s interested, we’ll negotiate a discounted rate for our group.
Directions: The theater is in the 7 Corners area. Go North on 35W to the “U of M/3rd Street” exit—stay in “West Bank” lane. Turn right onto Washington Ave. A public ramp is at Washington/15th Ave. next to Holiday Inn, and right around the corner from the Southern.
BOOKCLUB: May Discussion Date TBA-–Until They Bring The Streetcars Back, by Stanley Gordon West, offers a nostalgic journey through the streets of post-war 1949 Saint Paul—those wistful days of ten-cent sodas, big band music, and burning leaves. West weaves rollicking humor, riveting suspense and a bittersweet love story into the fabric of those optimistic times. (West is the author of Finding Laura Buggs which we discussed in 2004) Reserve you copy atHCLib.org now.
