Imagine an evening of luxury as Wanderers visit some of Minneapolis’ hot new hotels. Our Coffee at The Good Day Café is well worth the drive. If you love lutefisk—or have always wanted to try it—don’t miss the special Scandinavian dinner on International Night.
Creative Marlys Granlund has some new holiday crafts for us to try on Ladies Night Out. Carol has stumbled across a great little lunch spot—meet us there for this month’s Luncheon.

BOOKCLUB––Tuesday, November 4th, 7:00PM–– at the home of Carol Schaub
2537 Oregon Ave., St. Louis Park
Alice’s Tulips, by Sandra Dallas, is written in the form of letters from Alice, a young bride living with her mother-in-law on an Iowa farm while her new husband is off fighting in the Civil War, to her sister. The book offers insights into rural life at the time, a short history of quilting, and, for good measure, a murder is tossed into the mix. Copies are readily available at the library. RSVP by Saturday, November 1st to Carol at Carol.Schaub@comcast.net or 952-545-6886
Reading Ahead: Our January book will be The China Lover By Ian Buruma. Lina Dajani has reserved several copies at the library. Please contact her ASAP at Lina.Dajani@nwa.com
if you wish to get a copy. Amazon.com is the cheapest hardcover source. This historical novel takes place during WW II . It’s the story of the young girl who in a movie called “China Nights” plays a Chinese orphan rescued by a Japanese officer who both loves and beats her.
WANDERERS––Thursday, November 6th, 10:30 Departure—Visit to New Minneapolis Hotels
Recently, a number of new hotels have been developed in downtown Minneapolis. Let’s do an informal visit to a few of them, perhaps have lunch at one, and choose our favorites. The 1929 Foshay Tower was the tallest building in Minneapolis until the IDS building was built. The W Hotel is a wonderful renovation in the art deco style and has an observation tower. The Hotel Ivy, the city’s first 5-star hotel and luxury spa, is also a rebirth of a 1930’s building originally designed as part of a Christian Science complex. The Chambers Hotel is known for its original art. We’ll park at a central location, or take the light rail and walk from there. Please wear comfortable shoes. A carpool will leave at 10:30AM from Sally’s home at 4501 Claremore Ct. RSVP by Wednesday, November 5th to Barbara Nazarian at brnazarian@comcast.net or 952-943-8851

LUNCHEON––Tuesday, November 18th, 1:00PM—TLC Catering/Carter’s Cafe
7264 Washington, Ave Eden Prairie, 952-944-6208
Note later start time! I am out in this light industry complex to get a replacement part for my sander and what do I spy but a little sign that leads me to this working person’s luncheonette! Had a nice chat with owner— he is very enthusiastic about the food he serves. They do hot and cold sandwiches, homemade soup, chili and salads plus daily specials. The place is not fancy, but neat and clean, the menu looks good, and very reasonable in price. Because they have limited space I made our reservation for 1:00PM so we do not interfere with their “regulars. Please join us for food and conversation.
