April 2008 ACTIVITIES

Friday, April 4th, 2008

A note from our President…..
With Easter so early this year I’m hoping spring will quickly follow suit.  We deserve it after our cold winter! Whatever the weather, please come enjoy some time with Newcomers this month.
Spend the morning at Betty’s cozy home at this month’s Coffee. We’ll continue our focus on the Middle East with a look at Lebanon on International Night, and a taste of Persian cuisine on Ladies Night Out.
Carol’s discovered a tasty Asian restaurant for us to try at our Luncheon. Your toes will be tapping to the familiar Broadway tunes we all remember as Wanderers enjoys in the LeagueAires.
See you there!    Sally           Sally@EdinaNewcomers.org

LADIES’ NIGHT OUT—Monday, April 14th, 7:00PM—Dinner at Shiraz Fire Roasted Cuisine

6042 Nicollet Avenue South, Mpls. (612) 861-5500

Shiraz is a new restaurant that serves Persian food at affordable prices. It has been mentioned in Minnesota Monthly and The Rake magazines. “First-rate Persian cuisine in stylish surroundings. Many dishes are Persian versions of familiar Middle Eastern fare—hummus, stuffed grape leaves, and kabobs of beef and chicken, plus items for more adventuresome diners.”

RSVP by Saturday, April 12th, to Brenda@EdinaNewcomers.org

Directions: NOTE: The Lyndale Exit of 62/Crosstown is closed indefinitely! Instead from Edina take 50th or 66th Street (whichever is closer to your starting point) East to Nicollet and follow to restaurant.

LUNCHEON—Wednesday, April 22nd, 11:30AM—ThanhDo

3005 Utah Avenue S., St. Louis Park, MN 5542 952-935-5005

I recently discovered this little restaurant right in my own neighborhood. It serves the usual variety of Asian dishes, does them well and at a moderate price. There are 30 Luncheon Specials served, including soup for $8.49–who can beat a bargain like that! I am only beginning to explore their extensive menu, but think I could become a regular. The restaurant fills up at lunch time, so 11:30 should get us in just ahead of the crowd.

RSVP by Sunday, April 20th Carol Schaub at 952-545-6886 or carol.schaub@comcast.net

Directions: From Hwy 100, go WEST on Minnetonka Blvd. Pass through the intersection at Texas and turn LEFT (south) into the small strip mall. The restaurant faces Utah Avenue. From 394, take Louisiana Ave. S to Minnetonka, turn LEFT and follow above directions.

WANDERERS—Tuesday, April 29th, 7:00PM––LeagueAires Concert

Colonial Church, 6200 Colonial Way 952-925-2711

Come enjoy 100 Years of Broadway, presented in a free concert by our own Kathy Cross-Berard and the LeagueAires, a 60-voice women’s choral group. Sponsored by the Mpls. Jr. League, the group also performs weekly at nursing homes, etc. throughout the community.
