In 1993, Beth read Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang. In 1997, she made the 1st of 7 trips to China. In 2002-03, she took a sabbatical and taught at Jiaotong University in Xi’an. What began as curiosity has turned into a lifelong passion. Her home is filled with artifacts that tell the story of the changing face of China as its moved from a closed to an open society.

WANDERERS—Thursday, February 21st, 11:00AM Departure—Landmark Center Concert & Traces Museum 75 West Fifth Street, St. Paul
St. Paul’s Schubert Club offers FREE informal, hour-long concerts every Thursday noon in a former courtroom of the beautifully restored Landmark Center. Bring a bag lunch or purchase sandwiches, etc. at the Center’s small café. Program at www.schubert.org.
After the concert, we’ll visit the Traces Museum also located in the Landmark Center. This unique, small museum is dedicated to preserving the stories of Germans and Austrians who encountered Midwesterners during World War II. Admission is $5, or FREE with a Museum Adventure Pass (good for 2) available at local libraries up to a week in advance.
A carpool will leave Edina at 11am, or meet us there.

Proceed 4 blocks to Market St. Turn LEFT and drive 2 blocks to Fifth St. Closest parking is the Lawson Ramp on 5th St. between Wabasha and St. Peter. Fifth St. is one-way going east. Further away may be some free, on street parking. Arrive early–the concerts are very popular.

There is a parking lot in front of the restaurant, as well as street parking. Do not park in the lot just north of the restaurant, as you may be towed.

Ardell Hofstedt ’s daughter and son-in-law teach in Dubai, and Ardell has visited many times. She will bring artifacts, show a short DVD, and tell about her experiences in this very interesting part of the world.
