ACTIVITIES
INTERNATIONAL NIGHT-–Sunday, March 4th, 12:30 Departure––Destination: Australia
Landmark Center, 75 W. 5th Street, St. Paul
Landmark Center’s free Urban Expedition program (1-3PM) offers our members and their families the chance to experience international music, dance, arts & crafts and more without leaving St. Paul. This month we’ll “travel” to the land Down Under! This family-friendly event features Aussie animals—cattle dogs and a mama wallaby with a baby joey. Activities include: making your own Boomerang, Moari face painting, an Australian wildlife art project, and more! And, don’t miss the authentic Australian Tim-Tam treats–two layers of chocolate malted biscuit, separated by a light chocolate cream filling, and coated in a thin layer of textured chocolate. Carpools will leave at 12:30PM from Edina. Street parking is free and abundant on Sundays. For directions, go to www.landmarkcenter.org/aboutus.html

COFFEE—Wednesday, March 14th, 10:00AM––Bellaria Bakery, 4430 Excelsior Blvd.
Excelsior and Grand District, St. Louis Park
There are those familiar with the work of Larissa LeMay, owner of Elegant Confections, having attended a wedding and enjoyed one of her eye-catching cakes. Now, she’ expanded that circle by opening a retail bakery. She’s calling it Bellaria Bakery “Because it sounds pretty,” she said. “But also because it’s meaningful. It’s Latin for dessert.” Which is exactly what LeMay specializes in; no breads–the focus is on scones, croissants, Danish pastries, tortes, cheesecakes, individual desserts and truffles.

Once you’ve met the cunning and engaging Precious Ramotswe, you won’t put this book down—nor wait to read the rest of Alexander McCall Smith’s “charming, hilarious and life-affirming” series.
We will be discussing “Memory Keep’s Daughter” by Kim Edwards in May. Due to it’s popularity, there is a very long wait at the library—so reserve yours at hclib.org ASAP if you do not plan to purchase a copy.

The Walker, established in 1927, is the oldest public art gallery in the Upper MW. It’s focus on modern art began in the 1940’s when Mrs. Gilbert Walker’s gift enabled the purchase of sculptures by Picasso, Henry Moore and others. The completely renovated building, which doubled the Walker’s size, opened in April 2005. The adjacent Mpls. Sculpture Garden has become a symbol of the Twin Cities. Free gallery and architecture tours are offered at 1pm on Thursdays. Carpools will leave at 12:15PM from Edina. Or, meet us at the reception desk before the 1pm tour. Directions and information about the museum is at http://www.walkerart.org Our chair person will obtain a Museum Adventure Pass for herself and the first 3 people to RSVP. Those who respond later can get a pass at most local library branches one week in advance or be prepared to pay the $8 admission fee at the door.

This club boasts all the touches of a tavern from down under. Try the Coonawarra chook roll, which is chicken stuffed with garlic, artichokes, spinach and mushrooms. Cleanse the palate with a Fosters or a Dingo Red beer (a smooth “Australian style” beer brewed in New Ulm, Minnesota).
